Adam McKay officially in talks to direct The Boys

Back in April we reported the rumor that Sony Pictures wanted Adam McKay (ANCHORMAN, TALLADEGA NIGHTS) to direct an adaptation of the Garth Ennis comic series “The Boys.” We only knew this though because NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET director Samuel Bayer wanted to direct it himself but Sony was waiting patiently for McKay’s answer. As it turns out that answer is yes. Entertainment Weekly is reporting that McKay is officially in talks with Sony to make THE BOYS his next film.

THE BOYS was created by Ennis in 2006 and was canceled with only six issues in the bag. Luckily another company picked up the rights and the series continued throughout the years. The plot takes place in a world where superheroes exist and a covert CIA agency is created to keep them in check.

Matt Manfredi and Phil Hay were originally hired to write a draft of the script for the studio but I’d expect that if McKay were to sign on, he’d go through and do a rewrite of the project (possibly with frequent collaborator and OTHER GUYS co-writer Chris Henchy).
