Adam Driver trapped in a delusion in The Man Who Killed Don Quixote trailer

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

After spending decades in the worst kind of development hell, Terry Gilliam's passion-project THE MAN WHO KILLED DON QUIXOTE is finally complete. Over the years, Gilliam had dealt with budget issues and a parade of actors coming and going; he even began shooting the film in 2000 (with Jean Rochefort as Quixote and Johnny Depp as Toby), but natural disasters, destroyed equipment, and Rochefort suffering from a herniated disk ultimately led to its cancellation. Production on the film began anew in 2017 with Jonathan Pryce as Quixote and Adam Driver as Toby, but although filming went smoothly, the project's bad luck continued and it was caught up in a legal dispute for nearly a year. Finally, the film will be receiving a one-night-only release in select theaters courtesy of Fathom Events, and you can watch the new trailer for the film above!

"It took more than two and a half decades to make and moviegoers have just one chance to experience this film in all its glory on the big screen," said Fathom Events CEO Ray Nutt. "We are thrilled to provide audiences the opportunity to experience this highly anticipated content in the best way possible, larger-than-life and alongside fellow fans."

The official synopsis for THE MAN WHO KILLED DON QUIXOTE:

Toby (Driver), a cynical advertising director, finds himself trapped in the outrageous delusions of an old Spanish shoe-maker (Pryce) who believes himself to be Don Quixote.  In the course of their comic and increasingly surreal adventures, Toby is forced to confront the tragic repercussions of a film he made in his idealistic youth – a film that changed the hopes and dreams of a small Spanish village forever. Can Toby make amends and regain his humanity? Can Don Quixote survive his madness and imminent death? Or will love conquer all?

THE MAN WHO KILLED DON QUIXOTE will hit select theaters for one night only on April 10, 2019.
