Actor and former mortar man for the United States Marine Corp, Adam Driver, has been cast as the lead for director Jeff Nichols' next feature, YANKEE COMANDANTE.
To be presented as an adaptation of David Grann’s New Yorker article, YANKEE COMANDANTE will be directed and written by Nichols, and will tell the story about who rose to the rank of comandante during the Cuban Revolution. One being Che Guevara, while the other is a man from Ohio.
Previously Driver starred as Sevier for Nichols' MIDNIGHT SPECIAL, a 2016 sci-fi drama about a father and son who go on the run, while being pursued by the government and a cult drawn to the child's special powers. Nichols both wrote and directed the film, which some would say is eligible for sci-fi cult classic status. Joining Driver for MIDNIGHT SPECIAL are actors Michael Shannon, Joel Edgerton, Kirsten Dunst and Jaeden Martell. If you've yet to check this sci-fi gem out, you should do just that.
Production for YANKEE COMANDANTE is expected to begin in 2021, though the project's production start date is of course subject to change given the conditions of the ever-present coronavirus pandemic.
