The Man, the Cars, the Races, the Machine, the Star Who Has No Time For Your Idiotic Questions. Adam Driver – who plays Enzo Ferrari in Michael Mann’s upcoming film – had no patience for an audience member at a recent screening of Ferrari, shutting him down during a Q&A session.
Following a presentation of Ferrari at the Camerimage Film Festival in Poland over the weekend, Adam Driver was asked by an attendee about the car crash sequences in the movie: “What do you think about [the] crash scenes? That they looked pretty harsh, drastic and I must say cheesy for me. What do you think?” To which Adam Driver gave it a moment and replied, bluntly: “F*ck you, I don’t know. Next question.”
It would seem general etiquette when attending any sort of screening to be respectful of the cast and crew members who took time to answer questions, even if you had problems with the film. It can be quite awkward when the audience member shows their disapproval of the movie or tries to get the star with a “gotcha!” question and that was no different here. Really, can Adam Driver be blamed for brushing off the question in such a way?
While Ferrari had overall strong reviews coming out of the Venice Film Festival (where it was nominated for the Golden Lion), there’s not quite enough drive behind it to lead it to the Oscars. Still, I’m looking forward to the film and there will still be plenty of people wanting to see Michael Mann and Adam Driver reteam for the planned prequel/sequel to Heat, which could see the actor playing a younger version of Robert De Niro’s Neil McCauley.
Ferrari’s official plot synopsis, as per distributor Neon: “It is the summer of 1957. Behind the spectacle of Formula 1, ex-racer Enzo Ferrari is in crisis. Bankruptcy threatens the factory he and his wife, Laura built from nothing ten years earlier. Their volatile marriage has been battered by the loss of their son, Dino a year earlier. Ferrari struggles to acknowledge his son Piero with Lina Lardi. Meanwhile, his drivers’ passion to win pushes them to the edge as they launch into the treacherous 1,000-mile race across Italy, the Mille Miglia.” Ferrari races to theaters on December 25th.
