You probably know how the ABCs OF DEATH anthology films work – twenty-six filmmakers (counting duos and teams as one) from around the globe are each assigned a different letter of the alphabet, then they choose a word that starts with that letter and make a horrific short that has something to do with the word.
When Drafthouse Films was putting together THE ABCs OF DEATH 2, they assembled twenty-five filmmakers, then held a "Search for the 26th Director" contest, seeking submissions for the letter M segment. After receiving 541 entries from 40 countries, Drafthouse named director Robert Boocheck the winner and put his short "M is for Masticate" into the film.
But when you receive 541 entries, there has to be more than 1 really good one, right? Wanting to showcase some of the other M shorts, Drafthouse soon announced that they were assembling an ABCs OF DEATH 1.5 out of 26 of the M submissions, aiming for a digital release in 2014. That date was a little off, but the M-centric spin-off film is finally set to be released under the title ABCs OF DEATH 2 1/2: WORLD COMPETITION EDITION.
THE ABCs OF DEATH 2 ½ contains the best 26 shorts – each three minutes long – clocking in at 85 irreverent minutes of disturbing, inventive and unadulterated madness by the most passionate and talented upcoming filmmakers in the horror genre.
The film is being released exclusively on Vimeo, and will be available there as a $5.99 download or $2.99 rental starting August 2nd.
Producer/series creator Ant Timpson had this to say about ABCs OF DEATH 2 1/2:
The production team had a real blast selecting the 26 shorts that make up ABCs of Death 2 1/2. The hard part was only selecting 26, as the competition provided so many outstanding entries. We couldn't be happier with the final lineup. There's enough horror, humor, weirdness, and frankly truly f*cked up material to give even the most jaded fan a wake-up call from Hell."
