Coinciding with the limited theatrical release of the psychological thriller LAVENDER comes the announcement that LAVENDER lead Abbie Cornish has signed on to star in another psychological thriller, director Eddie Alcazar's PUBERTY.
Dylan Gelula and Garrett Wareing will co-star in the film, which tells the story ofÂ
a teenage boy with a violent past, who is haunted by dark visions, enters a mysterious clinic where the patients wildly transform their bodies and minds using genetic engineering. There he undergoes treatment, installing therapeutic implants into his body. The implants heal his visions, but at a corporeal cost, and ultimately he discovers that purity of mind is not exactly what he'd imagined.
Alcazar crafted the story with Ted Kupper, who wrote the screenplay. Alcazar will also be producing the film, with musician Flying Lotus executive producing and providing the score.
PUBERTY is being made under the banner of the film financing/production company Brainfeeder Films, which Alcazar and Flying Lotus recently formed together.
A clinic full of troubled people physically transforming themselves sounds like the setting for what could be an interesting body horror movie. If so, PUBERTY seems like an appropriate title for something concerning strange things happening to characters' bodies.
Filming begins in Los Angeles this winter.
