Abbi Jacobson is going from BROAD CITY to the World of Tomorrow as she's just signed on to voice Katie Mitchell, one of the lead roles in the animated family comedy THE MITCHELLS VS THE MACHINES. The newly-announced project hails from Sony Pictures Animation and has LEGO master builders Phil Lord and Christopher Miller in line to produce alongside Kurt Albrecht.
According to Deadline, who exclusively broke the news about the animation on Wednesday afternoon, THE MITCHELLS VS THE MACHINES will revolve around The Mitchells, a dysfunctional yet loving family whose road trip is interrupted by a tech uprising: all around the world, the electronic devices people love – from phones, to refrigerators, to an appealing new line of personal robots – decide it’s time to take over. With the help of two friendly malfunctioning robots and the family’s delightfully chubby pug, the Mitchells will have to get past their problems and work together to save each other and the world!
Directing the tech-based animated feature is GRAVITY FALLS alum Mike Rianda, who wrote the screenplay with co-director Jeff Rowe.
For the moment, Jacobson is the only talent attached to star, though considering that the film is expected to arrive in theaters on September 18, I suspect that we'll be hearing much more about this promising project sooner rather than later.
