Update: The promotional image had confused me into thinking SOMMAR was the title of the film, but it's actually MIDSOMMAR.
HEREDITARY writer/director Ari Aster and distributor A24 are working together to bring us another horror offering later this year, and A24 just started the marketing by releasing a promotional image on their Twitter account. This image can be seen below.
Aster's new film is titled MIDSOMMAR, and it's described as a "Scandinavian folk horror" / "apocalyptic breakup" movie. The story follows
a young woman, already dealing with the death of her parents, who joins her boyfriend and his friends on a trip to Sweden, specifically to a remote town with unique midsummer traditions. Things go south from there.
Florence Pugh (pictured above in the horror film MALEVOLENT), Jack Reynor, Will Poulter, Vilhem Blomgren, William Jackson Harper, Ellora Torchia, and Archie Madekwe star.
Although a financial success, HEREDITARY seems to be a divisive movie among viewers. Some love it, some hate it. I'm somewhere in the middle, but I did think it was a stunning feature debut for Aster. I look forward to seeing what he has done with MIDSOMMAR.
MIDSOMMAR is scheduled to reach theatres on August 9th.
