Writer/director Rose Glass's possession thriller SAINT MAUD was supposed to have been released already; earlier this year, distributor A24 announced that the movie would be in theatres on April 3rd. We all know why that didn't end up happening, but now A24 has scheduled a new U.S. release date.
SAINT MAUD will be reaching theatres nationwide on July 17th.
This is Glass's first feature and is said to be "a stunning horror debut in the vein of HEREDITARY and THE WITCH". It has also been described as a "chilling and boldly original vision of faith, madness, and salvation in a fallen world".
Starring Morfydd Clark and Jennifer Ehle, the film tells the story of
Maud, a newly devout hospice nurse, becomes obsessed with saving her dying patient’s soul — but sinister forces, and her own sinful past, threaten to put an end to her holy calling.
Lilly Frazer, Lily Knight, Marcus Hutton, Turlough Convery, and Rosie Sansom are also in the cast.
The trailer for SAINT MAUD can be seen above. Check it out and see if this looks like something you'd want to venture out to a theatre to see next month. It's going to be a while before I go to any indoor theatres, but hopefully this will be playing at some drive-ins as well.
