Seven years after making the fascinating giallo tribute BERBERIAN SOUND STUDIO, writer/director Peter Strickland returns to the horror genre with IN FABRIC, which takes a serious and stylish approach to the concept of a killer dress.
Starring Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Hayley Squires, Leo Bill, and Gwendoline Christie, IN FABRIC is described as "a truly nightmarish film, at turns frightening, seductive, and darkly humorous." The plot:
A lonely woman (Jean-Baptiste), recently separated from her husband, visits a bewitching London department store in search of a dress that will transform her life. She’s fitted with a perfectly flattering, artery-red gown —which, in time, will come to unleash a malevolent curse and unstoppable evil, threatening everyone who comes into its path.
The film will be receiving a release in the UK on June 28th, courtesy of Curzon Artificial Eye. A24 holds the US distribution rights. They haven't announced a release date yet, but today they released the trailer that can be seen below.
One of the reviews quoted in the trailer calls the film "wonderfully weird", that seems to be fitting. While the overall idea is strange, I do find the part where the dress is causing the woman to develop a skin condition to be quite troubling.
We'll let you know when A24 will be putting IN FABRIC out in the states. In the meantime, give this trailer a look:
