I'm a fan of writer/director Jeremy Saulnier from his 2007 debut, the awesome Halloween-set horror/comedy MURDER PARTY. That film showed me that Saulnier was a talent to keep an eye on, and even though I waited for years to see what he would follow it up with, I still haven't found the right time to watch his second feature, 2013's much raved about revenge thriller BLUE RUIN. I'm going to fix that very soon, and will definitely have watched BLUE RUIN by the time Saulnier's third film reaches U.S. theatres.
We now have an idea of when that will be, as A24 has acquired the U.S. distribution rights to Saulnier's GREEN ROOM and is planning a spring 2016 release.
GREEN ROOM tells the following story:
A young punk rock band find themselves trapped in a secluded venue after stumbling upon a horrific act of violence, fighting for their lives against a gang of white power skinheads intent on eliminating all witnesses.
Sounds like a great set-up for a violent thriller, and things get even more promising with the fact that the leader of the skinheads is played by Patrick Stewart.
The cast also includes a reunion of FRIGHT NIGHT remake stars Anton Yelchin and Imogen Poots, Alia Shawkat, Joe Cole, Callum Turner, Mark Webber, Kai Lennox, Eric Edelstein, and Macon Blair.
I'm very much looking forward to GREEN ROOM, and will be sure to get to it much quicker than I've gotten to BLUE RUIN.
