The Vicious Brothers, the filmmaking duo behind GRAVE ENCOUNTERS and EXTRATERRESTRIAL, have a new genre offering making its world premiere at the Sitges Film Festival this month, a zombie movie called IT STAINS THE SANDS RED.
Showing in the Midnight X-Treme section, IT STAINS THE SANDS RED will be showing twice at Sitges, its October 8th premiere to be followed by a second screening on October 11th.
Directed by Colin Minihan from a screenplay he wrote with Stuart Ortiz (those are the names of the not-actually-related Vicious Brothers), the film stars Brittany Allen and Juan Riedinger. The synopsis:
Following a zombie apocalypse, Molly finds herself lost in the desert with one of the rabid living dead hot on her trail. Although at first she finds it hard to give him the slip, the situation gets even more complicated when the girl realizes that, unlike her, her pursuer has no physical need to stop and rest.
Ahead of its screen debut, a clip has arrived online (courtesy of Entertainment Weekly) that gives a minute long preview of the film's location, the lead character, and the zombie that just won't stop coming after her.
The zombie sub-genre is a bit tired and overdone these days, but it's the films with hordes of zombies that we've been getting too much of lately. It sounds like IT STAINS THE SANDS RED could just be one woman being chased through the desert by one zombie, which is an interesting concept that should help it stand out from the pack.
