Disney’s A WRINKLE IN TIME is going to be a helluva movie. The sci-fi adventure story not only has classic source material behind it, but the upcoming epic has the amazing Ava DuVernay at the helm, and a stellar cast that just got even stellarier. At bare minimum it at least got a little funnier.
According to Deadline actor Zach Galifianakis has joined the cast, along with PAN’s Levi Miller, MOONLIGHT’s André Holland and Deric McCabe. Together they form the finished cast that includes the likes of Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, Chris Pine, Mindy Kaling, Storm Reid, Bellamy Young, Rowan Blanchard, Will McCormack and Gugu Mbatha-Raw. As well, the film has officially begun production and will shoot primarily in California, with two weeks of shooting planned in New Zealand.
The story about a young girl, Meg Murry (Reid), her brother Calvin (Miller) and their friend Charles Wallace (McCabe) going on an inter-dimensional quest to save their father is based on the classic 1963 book of the same name, which has gone on to sell 23 million copies worldwide.
I can’t remember if I read the book in school, but it seems to be a big deal so I guess it’s time I get on it. The story sounds epic and emotional, and clearly it's been resonating with audiences for decades. This will no doubt be another big movie for Disney, but there were other releases from the studio this year, like THE BFG and ALICE THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS, that had a lot riding on them but tanked despite big names attached. The movie sounds exciting, so hopefully audiences will get on board for the inter-dimensional journey. Just be sure to bring a snack for the trip! Get it? Because inter-dimensional travel is probably pretty exhaustive…
A WRINKLE IN TIME is aiming for a 2018 release.
