Following its release on BBC One last year, A Very British Scandal is finally getting an international release as Prime Video has released a new trailer for the historical drama.

Starring Claire Foy and Paul Bettany, A Very British Scandal revolves around one of the most notorious, extraordinary, and brutal legal cases of the 20th century: the divorce of the Duke (Bettany) and Duchess of Argyll (Foy). The couple didn’t exactly have the best relationship, as can be witnessed in the trailer above, but A Very British Scandal also dives into the media frenzy surrounding the fallout between the Duke and Duchess. The three-part miniseries was created by Sarah Phelps (The ABC Murders), who also wrote each episode, and directed by Anne Sewitsky (Black Mirror). It’s also a sequel series to A Very English Scandal, which told the story of Jeremy Thorpe (Hugh Grant), a British Liberal Party leader who was accused of conspiracy to murder his gay ex-lover (Ben Whishaw) and forced to stand trial.

The official synopsis for A Very British Scandal:

Famed for her charisma, beauty, and style, Margaret, Duchess of Argyll, dominated the front pages as a divorce featuring accusations of forgery, theft, violence, drug-taking, secret recording, bribery, and an explicit Polaroid picture all played out in the white-hot glare of the 1960s media. A Very British Scandal turns this scandal inside out in order to explore the social and political climate of postwar Britain, looking at attitudes towards women, and asking whether institutional misogyny was widespread at the time. As her contemporaries, the press, and the judiciary sought to vilify her, Margaret kept her head held high with bravery and resilience, refusing to go quietly as she was betrayed by her friends and publicly shamed by a society that reveled in her fall from grace.

A Very British Scandal will premiere on Prime Video in the U.S., Canada, Australia, and New Zealand on April 22, 2022.
