One look at the poster for THE STONE ANGEL and you can tell Ellen Page made it before the JUNO thing happened, because there’s no way she’d stain or filmography with this kind of movie in her post JUNO landscape. Not enough cred, right? I read the novel this thing is based on in high school. Margaret Laurence is a Canadian author, but I don’t remember a thing about it. It’s a Canadian production (which I doubt Page, a native Canadian, will be making much more of) about an old woman named Hagar, played Ellen Burstyn who stunned me like no other in REQUIEM FOR A DREAM, who escapes before her son is able to put her in a nursing home, and goes on a journey of self-discovery. It’s never too late.
