There is a new series based on the iconic DC heroine Supergirl in the works at Warner Bros. TV. Greg Berlanti, who produces Arrow and The Flash on The CW, is reportedly tapped to executive-produce. He and Ali Adler, who produced shows like No Ordinary Family and Chuck, are looking to bring a Supergirl series to TV with what is described as a fresh take on the heroine’s origin story. DC’s Geoff Johns, who is also involved with both Arrow and The Flash, is expected to be part of the project in some capacity as well.
The report added a quick refresher if you need it:
Supergirl was created by writer Otto Binder and designed by artist Al Plastino in 1959. There had been several characters that had assumed the caped girl persona, most notably Superman’s cousin, Kara Zor-El, who shares his super powers and vulnerability to Kryptonite.
It’s not a big surprise they're trying to get more comic book characters on TV after the success of Arrow and positive attention The Flash is getting. While this project is still in development, I'm curious to see what new interpretation is brought to the table for this one. I watched Smallville for a few seasons and turned it back on to see its finale; least we forget Laura Vandervoort as Supergirl:
Deadline Nellie Andreeva says "The Supergirl show doesn’t have a name yet. I hear the producers are considering several options that need to be cleared, including Super and Girl." It's also expected that the series will be shopped to networks by the same process that resulted in FOX getting Gotham. We will keep you posted!
What do you think about a potential Supergirl series? Who would you like to see put on the cape?
