A strategy game for Netflix’s The Dark Crystal is coming to Nintendo Switch

Nintendo’s E3 2019 presentation kicked off not long ago, and in addition to featuring hotly-anticipated titles like LUIGI'S MANSION 3, PANZER DRAGOON, POKEMON: SWORD, POKEMON: SHEILD, ANIMAL CROSSING: NEW HORIZONS and much more, the beloved gaming company announced that a turn-based strategy game for Netflix's THE DARK CRYSTAL: AGE OF RESISTANCE is coming to the Nintendo Switch!

Titled THE DARK CRYSTAL: AGE OF RESISTANCE TACTICS, players will control unlikely gatherings of characters from across Jim Henson's Dark Crystal universe, as they traverse across a grid-based battlefield in search of victory. The game hails from BonusXP and En Masse Entertainment and take place in the world of Thra, a kingdom plagued by evil, rich in magical energy, and as mysterious as the Gelflings and Skeksis themselves.

Of course, the game is meant to serve as a tie-in for Netflix's much-anticipated THE DARK CRYSTAL: AGE OF RESISTANCE television series. Helmed by Louis Leterrier (NOW YOU SEE ME, THE INCREDIBLE HULK), and based on THE DARK CRYSTAL, Jim Henson's spellbinding 1982 feature film, THE DARK CRYSTAL: AGE OF RESISTANCE tells a new epic story, set many years before the events of the movie, and realized using classic puppetry with cutting edge visual effects. The world of Thra is dying. The Crystal of Truth is at the heart of Thra, a source of untold power. But it is damaged, corrupted by the evil Skeksis, and a sickness spreads across the land. When three Gelfling uncover the horrific truth behind the power of the Skeksis, an adventure unfolds as the fires of rebellion are lit and an epic battle for the planet begins.

The series which is set to make its Netflix debut on August 30th stars a Murderers' Row of talent, with Taron Egerton, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Nathalie Emmanuel, as Rian, Brea and Deet, three Gelfling heroes. They will be joined by Caitriona Balfe, Helena Bonham Carter, Harris Dickinson, Natalie Dormer, Eddie Izzard, Theo James, Toby Jones, Shazad Latif, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Mark Strong, and Alicia Vikander as other Gelfling kin.

As for the nightmarish Skeksis: Harvey Fierstein, Mark Hamill, Ralph Ineson, Jason Isaacs, Keegan-Michael Key, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, Simon Pegg, and Andy Samberg will provide the voices of the main assembly. Meanwhile, Donna Kimball will voice Aughra, with additional characters being voiced by puppeteers from the production, including Alice Dinnean, Louise Gold, Neil Sterenberg and Victor Yerrid as Hup.

THE DARK CRYSTAL: AGE OF RESISTANCE TACTICS is expected to arrive later this year on the Nintendo Switch.
