Cleopatra Entertainment has picked up the North American distribution rights to the psychological thriller LADYWORLD, which draws inspiration from William Golding's 1954 novel Lord of the Flies but switches things up a bit: rather than telling a story about young boys turning against each other while stranded on an uninhabited island, LADYWORLD is about young girls turning against each other when the world falls apart around their slumber party.
Directed by Amanda Kramer from a screenplay written by Kramer and Benjamin Shearn, the film boasts an impressive young cast led by Annalise Basso (OCULUS, OUIJA: ORIGIN OF EVIL), Maya Hawke (daughter of Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman, soon to be seen in Stranger Things season 3), and Ryan Simpkins (HANGMAN, ANGUISH).
The synopsis:
When a group of girls get stuck in a house during a slumber party due to an apocalyptic event, stress and fear cause them to degenerate into savagery.
The cast also includes Ariela Barer, Odessa Adlon, Tatsumi Romano, Zoe Casabere, and Atheena Frizzell.
Kramer produced the film with Love & Death Productions' Leal Naim and Thomas R. Burke.
Cleopatra Entertainment is planning to give LADYWORLD a nationwide theatrical release on August 2nd. Also on that date there will be special premieres hosted at the Cinema Village in New York, NY and at the Arena Cinelounge in Los Angeles, CA. There will be a Q&A with Kramer and cast members at the L.A. screening. A VOD and DVD release will follow on August 27th.
The concept of this one is interesting to me, I look forward to checking it out this summer.
