A couple days ago, we shared a teaser for the upcoming Universal / Blumhouse film HAPPY DEATH DAY (formerly known as HALF TO DEATH) that promised a full trailer would be following soon after, and now it's here.
Having emerged from a decade in development hell (the project was first announced in 2007, at which time Megan Fox was attached to star), HAPPY DEATH DAY was directed by Christopher Landon from a screenplay he wrote with comic book writer Scott Lobdell. Described as a "horror GROUNDHOG DAY", the film stars Jessica Rothe as
a college student who relives the day of her murder with both its unexceptional details and terrifying end until she discovers her killer’s identity.
The full trailer can be seen below, and it looks like this one could be a lot of fun for fans of slasher movies, as we'll be seeing a maniac wearing a baby mask stalk and slash our leading lady again and again. I think this trailer was the first time I've ever seen Jessica Rothe in anything, and I was impressed. It looks like she'll handle the drama and the horror well, while also having a strong comedic presence.
Rothe's co-stars include Israel Broussard, Ruby Modine, Charles Aitken, and Rachel Matthews.
HAPPY DEATH DAY will be released in theatres on Friday, October 13th, and the trailer has convinced me that I need to go see it.
