Sometimes a project will languish in development hell for years and years before it finally gets off the ground, but in the case of Netflix's upcoming animated series inspired by the popular Castlevania video-game franchise, shit got done pretty damn quick. Although there had been rumblings of an animated Castlevania series previously, the show was announced by Netflix just three months ago. Now, it appears that the series will arrive a lot sooner than we thought as Netflix has announced that Castlevania will debut on July 7th in this all-too-brief teaser which gives us our first look at bloody series.
"There is a darkness upon the land…"
Full disclosure, I've never played any of the Castlevania games so I'm a little in the dark as to what's happening here, but the brief teaser has definitely gotten me intrigued. Castlevania is a dark medieval fantasy series which will follow "the last surviving member of the disgraced Belmont clan, trying to save Eastern Europe from extinction at the hand of Vlad Dracula Tepe himself." Castlevania producer Adi Shankar (DREDD) had previously teased that the series will be "very much Castlevania done in the vein of Game of Thrones," before adding that it is "going to be R-rated as f**k."
Castlevania will debut on Netflix on July 7, 2017.
