A Quiet Place writers already have ideas for a sequel

A QUIET PLACE is officially a bona fide smash, and not just by horror movie standards. The movie’s $50 million opening is on par with summer blockbuster cash, and the movie should have no trouble getting to well above $100 million. With that kind of success comes sequel talk, and writers Bryan Woods and Scott Beck seem very excited about what other aspects of this quiet world they can explore.

While speaking with Fandango, the writers were asked about if they would be willing to create a sequel to the horror success, with Woods saying positively, “It's such a fun world. There are so many things you could do."

Beck continued, saying that there are a lot of ideas floating around from previous drafts, of which could be mined and used to explore other parts of the world that have been affected by the alien invasion.

Definitely…There are so many discarded set pieces, too, just hiding out on Word documents on our computer. So, yeah, there are certainly so many stories you could tell. It's just really, at the end of the day, who are the characters in this and what does this situation mean to that dynamic?

It sounds like if they were to write a sequel it wouldn’t involve any of the characters from this movie (including John Krasinski, Emily Blunt, etc.) instead opting to tell a story from a different character’s point of view. Not to spoil anything, but the ending of A QUIET PLACE was a nice conclusion for this family, and there isn’t a ton of sense to be made out of continuing their story. I mean, it’s not like they’re telling a superhero origin story here.

Honestly, I’m not a big fan of this idea that if a movie opens above $40 million it gets to have a franchise. There are too many sequels out there as it is, and often they’re incredibly underwhelming. This movie was horror perfection that also managed to be heartbreaking and sweet, and to try and replicate it would be folly, and to do anything else would be pointless – especially if John Krasinski didn't return to direct. Let’s just let this movie be its own thing, entirely untarnished by (potentially) lackluster follow-ups that would later be included in a box set.
