John Krasinski’s horror sequel is expected to open to at least $60 million according to early box office projections that were recently released.. If that projection holds, it will best the $50.2 million opening of the first film. A QUIET PLACE hit tracking back in 2018 with a potential opening of $20 million+ but enormous buzz out of its world premiere at SXSW and solid reviews allowed the $17 million film to crush those projections. By the end of it of its run, A QUIET PLACE grossed $188 million at the domestic box office.
Helping A QUIET PLACE: PART II is that it will be the only game in town when it opens on March 20. Having the box office playing field to itself will be a huge advantage so now it will all come down to early buzz and good reviews to ensure it reaches its projections or even surges beyond them.
Currently, A QUIET PLACE: PART II is peaking with females under 25, African Americans and Hispanic demos, but overall the film appears to be strong in all the demos the movie is targeting. Analysts are comparing the film's opening numbers to such movies as US ($71.1 million opening), A QUIET PLACE, HALLOWEEN ($76.2 million), and IT CHAPTER TWO ($91 million). Paramount has been very confident in the sequel’s potential, even giving it a prime Super Bowl spot to boost interest.
In the sequel, the Abbot family consisting of Evelyn (Emily Blunt), daughter Regan (Millicent Simmonds), son Marcus (Noah Jupe) and Evelyn’s newborn baby now face the terrors of the outside world. They are forced to venture into the unknown, and they realize the creatures that hunt by sound are not the only threats lurking beyond their farm.
Do YOU think A QUIET PLACE: PART II will live up to early projections? Will YOU be seeing the film on opening weekend? A QUIET PLACE: PART II opens March 20, 2020.
