A Quiet Place: John Krasinski on choosing Jeff Nichols to direct third film

A Quiet Place: Part II was finally released last month and has so far grossed over $200 million worldwide, cementing Paramount's faith in John Krasinski's horror franchise. While I've little doubt that A Quiet Place: Part III is in our future, the next installment of the series won't come from Krasinski, but rather from writer/director Jeff Nichols (Midnight Special).

The story for this new project originated from John Krasinski, and he recently spoke with Empire about the film and why he chose Jeff Nichols to write and direct it.

I came up with the idea. The story of the third one, the third installment, is something I came up with. Truly the only person I had in mind when asked whether I would hand this off was Jeff. I think he’s one of the best filmmakers, Mud is one of my favourite movies, and so real and intimate. It’s exactly the sort of paints we’re painting with in A Quiet Place – very organic characters you fall in love with. So he was my first choice for this, and when he said yes I was over the moon. I pitched him my story, he’s gone and developed the world on his own with that jumping-off point, and I’m so thrilled. He’s actually just turning in a script now, and I loved it. I absolutely loved it, and I can’t wait to see him shoot this thing.

It's not known if Jeff Nichols' film will continue the story of the Abbott family, and John Krasinski obviously wouldn't spill the beans, only to say that he's really excited about the project "because it's going to do something that we haven't done before." Development on the Quiet Place spin-off is still in the very early stages, but Paramount has already slated the film for a March 31, 2023 release.

Our own JimmyO reviewed A Quiet Place: Part II last month and was blown away, calling it a "bold, emotional, and terrifying" film that's "one of the best horror sequels I've had the pleasure of seeing." You can check out the rest of Jimmy's review right here.
