After directing A Quiet Place (watch it HERE) from a screenplay by Bryan Woods and Scott Beck (and rewriting the script himself), John Krasinski wrote and directed A Quiet Place II. Paramount is now planning to bring a third Quiet Place film to theatres on March 31, 2023, but this time around Krasinski is only providing the story. He has handed the writing and directing duties for the film that may or may not be called A Quiet Place Part III over to Midnight Special's Jeff Nichols. Speaking with the folks at Empire, Krasinski discussed picking Nichols to replace him at the helm of his franchise.
The story of the third one, the third instalment, is something I came up with. Truly the only person I had in mind when asked whether I would hand this off was Jeff. I think he’s one of the best filmmakers, Mud is one of my favourite movies, and so real and intimate. It’s exactly the sort of paints we’re painting with in A Quiet Place – very organic characters you fall in love with. So he was my first choice for this, and when he said yes I was over the moon. I pitched him my story, he’s gone and developed the world on his own with that jumping-off point, and I’m so thrilled. He’s actually just turning in a script now, and I loved it. I absolutely loved it, and I can’t wait to see him shoot this thing."
Krasinski wouldn't say whether or not the characters from his Quiet Place movies would return in Nichols', but he did say that the third film will
do something that we haven’t done before."
He also confirmed that the story does pick up after the events of A Quiet Place Part II, at a time when survivors are starting to figure out how to fight back against the monstrous alien invaders that have dropped Earth into an apocalyptic situation. Krasinski pondered,
What will the world do with this answer, or with this weapon? Will they be responsible with it, or will they not be responsible with it?"
Apparently Nichols will let us know in 2023.
