A Quiet Place 2 moves close to Invisible Man, Godzilla vs. Kong date

UPDATED to clarify the release dates of each film.

Warner Bros. and Legendary were once aiming to get their monster mash GODZILLA VS. KONG into theatres in May of 2020. The first date announced was May 29, then they bumped it up to May 22. Then earlier this year they moved it all the way up to a March 13, 2020 release date.

At the time, the other films sitting on that date were the Fox X-MEN spin-off GAMBIT, which didn't look likely to happen (and has been removed from the schedule following the Disney merger), and a then-untitled Blumhouse / Universal project. Since GODZILLA VS. KONG had taken the same date as their collaboration, I would have expected the Blumhouse / Universal film to move, but so far they're sticking to their date and have announced that the project they plan to release on that day is Leigh Whannell's reboot of the classic Universal property THE INVISIBLE MAN.

This release window has gotten even more crowded now. Apparently not concerned about competing with GODZILLA VS. KONG and THE INVISIBLE MAN, Paramount Pictures has moved their sequel to the 2018 hit A QUIET PLACE from its previously announced May 15, 2020 release date up to March 20th.

If A QUIET PLACE 2 had stuck with May 15th, it would have been opening the same day as Warner Bros' latest Scooby Doo movie and one week before Universal's next FAST AND FURIOUS sequel. Now it's coming just one week after Warner's GODZILLA VS. KONG and Universal's THE INVISIBLE MAN. They'll all be competing for screens and audience dollars.

I wouldn't expect two of these movies to come out so close together, let alone all three of them, so I would bet that we're going to see more schedule changes in the next nine months.

A QUIET PLACE director John Krasinski is back at the helm for A QUIET PLACE 2, which is set to star returning cast members Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds, and Noah Jupe, along with new addition Cillian Murphy.
