Long ago, Tuesday I’m pretty sure it was, we shared with you a pretty interesting story about how Edgar Wright came onboard to direct GRASSHOPPER JUNGLE. It’s a project that we won’t likely be seeing for a few more years. His other upcoming film however, BABY DRIVER, has been a sort-of mystery as there hasn’t been a lot said about the project. So far we know that Ansel Elgort (THE FAULT IN OUR STARS) is up for a role in the movie and now we have an updated synopsis to keep us on our toes.
Variety reported the updated BABY DRIVER synopsis:
[The] plot follows a talented, young getaway driver who relies on the beat of his personal soundtrack to be the best in the game. But after being coerced into working for a crime boss, he must face the music when a doomed heist threatens his life, love and freedom.
I suspect Elgort is up for the role of this music-crazed driver, so we wait on official confirmation with that news. It sounds like a pretty cool trip that I’m sure fans of Wright are willing to take.
The head of TriStar, Tom Rothman, also commented on the film:
We’re delighted to be riding shotgun as Edgar Wright takes the wheel of his next film. TriStar is in the business of backing original voices, and he is all that. Working Title are great producers and MRC great partners. They and Edgar are making the ultimate rock-and-roll car chase film, and together we’re buckled up and ready to go.
That was an excited pun-filled statement don’t you think? He pretty much nails it by describing Wright as an original voice; it’s going to be great to see how this original picture develops in his own hands, working his own magic.
