From director J.A. Bayona (THE IMPOSSIBLE) comes A MONSTER CALLS. The story follows 12-year-old Conor (Lewis MacDougall), dealing with his mother’s (Felicity Jones) illness, a less-than-sympathetic grandmother (Sigourney Weaver), and bullying classmates, who finds a most unlikely ally when a Monster appears at his bedroom window. Ancient, wild, and relentless, the Monster (Liam Neeson) guides Conor on a journey of courage, faith, and truth.
This film seems to share a lot of similarities with Guillermo del Toro's PAN'S LABYRINTH, but I don't think that's a bad thing at all. I enjoy a good coming of age story, especially when they involve a sense of magical realism. THE IMPOSSIBLE was a hard-hitting and emotional story, and I expect no less from A MONSTER CALLS.
A MONSTER CALLS will open in theaters on October 21, 2016.
