A media release for The Dark Knight Rises may have a spoiler regarding another villainous cameo

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

With just about a month to go until THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, the news is ramping up. This will be the third story on the final chapter of the Batman trilogy today alone. But, when you make movies as good as Christopher Nolan does, you can expect there to be lots of chatter.

With that being said, I do not want to take away the excitement and surprises that THE DARK KNIGHT RISES may have awaiting audiences. So, consider this a spoiler warning. If you do not want anything ruined for you, stop reading now. For the rest of you, scroll past Batman looking all badass below.

Still there? Okay, here you go.

In a recent media release for the upcoming London premiere of THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, a listing of cast members who would be attending the premiere included Christian Bale, Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine. No surprises there, but also listed are Liam Neeson and Cillian Murphy.

The Liam Neeson rumor has been known for some time, leading to rampant speculation that Marion Cotillard would be playing Talia Al Ghul. But, this is the first mention I have seen of Cillian Murphy being involved with the final film in anything more than a rumor capacity. Murphy played Dr. Jonathan Crane in both BATMAN BEGINS and briefly in THE DARK KNIGHT. Having him return for the last installment would be pretty cool, even if it was only for a cameo.

While this media alert could just be listing any and all cast involved with the three Nolan Batman films, Murphy was also recently asked in an interview if he would be in THE DARK KNIGHT RISES. His response was, “It’s coming out in July isn’t it? That’s not long to wait. All these questions!”

We will all find out just how many villains appear in the conclusion to the best superhero trilogy of all time when THE DARK KNIGHT RISES open on July 20th.
