So can we just assume that every Disney animated film is going to get the live-action treatment now? The Hollywood Reporter brought us the news that Disney is developing a live-action version of their 1998 animated film MULAN, having bought a script from Elizabeth Martin and Lauren Hynek.
The animated film's synopsis:
To save her father from death in the army, a young maiden secretly goes in his place and becomes one of China's greatest heroines in the process.
Disney have been bringing quite a few of their animated classics into the live-action world as of late; CINDERELLA made quite the impression at the box-office and with critics alike, we've also got Bill Condon's BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, Jon Favreau's THE JUNGLE BOOK,Tim Burton's DUMBO, as well as a sequel to ALICE IN WONDERLAND on the way. The production is in its earliest stages obviously so it's likely to be a bit of time before we get news of who will be directing/starring in the film. If the character weren't so young I'd say get original Mulan voice-actress Ming-Na Wen back for the role. No word on which Disney film is up for the live-action treatment next, perhaps BAMBI? Wink.
Several weeks ago our own Alex Maidy put forward MULAN as a Disney film worthy of a remake. How could he know that would happen? Is he a witch? Definitely. He once turned me into a newt*.
Who would you like to see take on the title role?
*I got better.
