Honestly, the more I see from Ridley Scott's upcoming ALIEN prequel / PROMETHEUS sequel ALIEN: COVENANT, the lower my level of interest in the film gets. This whole prequel concept has an uphill battle to win me over in the first place, I don't really care for the plan to make several movies to fit in between PROMETHEUS and ALIEN, but my lack of enthusiasm for COVENANT has less to do with how good or bad the movie looks than it does with the fact that I feel like I'm being beaten over the head with the amount of marketing. It's just overwhelming.
On the other hand, if you're hyped about ALIEN: COVENANT you're probably have fun taking in all the marketing, so today we have a few more images to share to help sustain or boost your hype level.
ALIEN: COVENANT is the cover feature on this month's issue of Empire magazine, and the folks over at Empire got the exclusive first look at the new images featured below.
In the first image, a "mysterious figure" is seen unleashing a barrage of pods on the home planet of the Engineers.
Michael Fassbender plays dual roles in COVENANT, reprising the role of PROMETHEUS android David as well as playing a new android named Walter. The second image shows one of Fassbender's android characters interacting with Weyland Industries CEO Peter Weyland – who is again played by Guy Pearce.
Finally, we have the money shot: a creature called the Neomorph, the design of which was inspired by goblin sharks, tearing into the body of a hapless victim.
If you don't dig on the idea of Neomorphs, don't worry too much. This movie has traditional Xenomorphs, too.
Directed by Scott from a script crafted by John Logan, Dante Harper, Jack Paglen, and Michael Green, ALIEN: COVENANT has the following synopsis:
Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the "synthetic" David, survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.
Fassbender and Pearce's co-stars include Katherine Waterston, Billy Crudup, Danny McBride, Demián Bichir, Carmen Ejogo, Amy Seimetz, Jussie Smollett, Callie Hernandez, Nathaniel Dean, Alexander England, Benjamin Rigby, Tess Haubrich, Uli Latukefu, James Franco, and Noomi Rapace, with Andrew Crawford and Javier Botet providing Xenomorph performances.
We have less than one month of marketing left before ALIEN: COVENANT is released on May 19th.
