A ferocious blizzard is about to hit The Walking Dead

If you don't want to know anything about the remaining three episodes of The Walking Dead season 9, you might not want to read the minor SPOILERS contained below.

The minute details of the episodes are still under wraps, but based on what we do know about them it sounds like we have a lot left to look forward to before this season comes to an end.

Titled Scars, this Sunday's episode looks like it's going to delve into what happened to make Michonne (Danai Gurira) and the Alexandria community separate themselves from the other communities during the six years since the disappearance / presumed death of Rick Grimes. We'll be seeing flashbacks to a time when Michonne was pregnant with Rick's son R.J., and judging by the title we might be seeing how Michonne and Daryl (Norman Reedus) got those mysterious X-shaped scars on their backs.

The episode's synopsis: 

An outsider's arrival forces Alexandria to rehash devastating old wounds; eye-opening secrets from the past are revealed.

Then episode 15 brings the fair at the Kingdom, and readers of the comic book source material know that the fair does not go as planned. That's the sort of event that would usually be saved for the season finale, and the fact that it's not is a good example of how the show has been shaken up a bit by new showrunner Angela Kang. 

Titled The Calm Before, this episode has the following synopsis: 

The fair at the Kingdom is underway, with all four communities coming together in celebration for the first time in years; while some pacts are renewed, other deals will come at a much steeper price.

And that brings us to the last episode of the season, which will feature something we've never seen on The Walking Dead before, a snow storm. Episode 16 is called The Storm and has this for a synopsis: 

In the aftermath of an overwhelming loss, the communities must brave a ferocious blizzard; as one group deals with an enemy from within, another is forced to make a life or death decision.

"An overwhelming loss". Like I said, the fair is not a good time. But it will be interesting to see a "ferocious blizzard" hit the show. Executive producer Greg Nicotero, who is also head of the FX team, has said in the past that he would like a Walking Dead show to deal with zombies in a "cold weather scenario" because 

frozen zombies are f*cking awesome. Until they thaw out and then you're screwed. Because they would freeze and thaw out, and they would be fine."

The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman has said, 

We saw a little bit of that in the comics. The idea was that they would kind of freeze in place and be preserved over the winter, and when things thawed out, they'd just kind of come back to life and go about their business. So yeah, we haven't been able to do that in the show because it's impractical to cover Georgia with snow in the summer time, don't quite have the budget for that."

Apparently they have now been able to put together enough coin to dump some snow on at least one episode.

So flashbacks that will provide information we need to know, a tragic event, and a blizzard. These three episodes seem like they're going to be something special.

The emotion on display in the image above is a pretty accurate representation of my feelings whenever there's snow in the forecast for the area I live in. I used to love winter when I was a kid. Not so much anymore.
