Ready to see PRETTY WOMAN once more? Chances you will if you are a big fan of the flick or Broadway.
Garry Marshall‘s 1990 romantic comedy starring Julia Roberts and Richard Gere will be developed as a musical for the stage. The director is currently meeting with composers, lyricists and directors for the adaptation. J.F. Lawton, screenwriter for the film will also take on writing duties for the Broadway adaptation. Paula Wagner will produce alongside Marshall.
I know plenty of ladies who love PRETTY WOMAN. If they don’t say PRETTY WOMAN than the second answer I’m expecting is DIRTY DANCING. I think that Marshall’s involvement will only help further the success of the stage version. You guys all know the plot right? It’s a love story for the ages. Successful businessman hires prostitute for ritzy business events only to fall in love with her in the end. That’s it in a nutshell. It should make for a great musical.
Marshall has had a little experience in Broadway with a HAPPY DAYS musical, and a short lived play called THE ROAST back in the 1980s on his resume.
