Leigh Whannell & Jason Blum want to make Upgrade: Part II

Blumhouse and THE INVISIBLE MAN writer-director Leigh Whannell's sci-fi horror-action flick UPGRADE with Logan Marshall-Green (PROMETHEUS) is a f*cking great and f*cking violent 80's action throwback. And today we hear that both Whannell and Blum want to make UPGRADE: PART II.

Whannell says:

A sequel is a champagne problem created by the success of a movie. So Hollywood economics dictates whether there’s going to be a sequel, and Upgrade… I wouldn’t exactly call it a monster hit. I’d call it a cult hit, and cult hits, when they look at the books of cult hits, they’re like ‘Nyah, sequel’. So we’ll see. I loved making that film, so I’d love to do it with a bit more money.

Jason Blum added:

I would love an Upgrade sequel. I will say that we haven’t put it to bed yet. We have no immediate plans, but Upgrade is very much on my mind — and on Leigh’s mind as well.

The original film followed Logan Marshall-Green's character who:

After his wife is killed during a brutal mugging that also leaves him paralyzed, is approached by a billionaire inventor with an experimental cure that will “upgrade” his body. The cure – an Artificial Intelligence implant called STEM – gives Grey physical abilities beyond anything experienced and the ability to relentlessly claim vengeance against those who murdered his wife and left him for dead.

UPGRADE was written and directed by Leigh Whannell and produced by Jason Blum, Kylie Du Fresne, and Brian Kavanaugh-Jones. Marshall-Green's co-stars included Rosco Campbell, Richard Cawthorne, and Betty Gabriel (GET OUT). It was unleashed back on June 1, 2018. BUY IT HERE.
