Back in January, we passed along word that an offer has been made to DISTURBIA and THE DISAPPOINTMENTS ROOM director D.J. Caruso to helm a Jason Statham-led THE EXPENDABLES spin-off tentatively titled – get this shite – THE EXPENDABLES: A CHRISTMAS STORY.
And today Randy Couture says that he's read the script and hopes the $70M sequel begins filming this spring. Specifically, he says:
It is a thing! I got a script last year and really enjoyed reading it. It was very well done but where we are on the production scale and getting it moving I’m not sure. There are a lot of things going on behind the scenes with the producer to make a film that big so I’m hoping this Spring we get the green light but I’m not hearing anything definitive right now.
The new film is penned by Max Adams (EXTRACTION, HEIST) with Statham as the lead and Stallone returning as a supporting character whose role will be "an emotional one for fans" and "despite not having many scenes … his presence will be felt throughout the film." You know what THAT means.
Evidently, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Tony Jaa are attached as well and waiting to see how it comes together. We'll let you know if we hear more.
Along with Stallone, Statham, and Couture, THE EXPENDABLES series has featured such stars as Dolph Lundgren, Jet Li, Terry Crews, Mickey Rourke, Eric Roberts, Steve Austin, Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Chuck Norris, Liam Hemsworth, Yu Nan, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Harrison Ford, Antonio Banderas, Wesley Snipes, Kellan Lutz, Ronda Rousey, Glen Powell, Victor Ortiz, Kelsey Grammer, and Mel Gibson.
