Joel Schumacher wanted Drew Barrymore and Rosanna Arquette as The Lost Girls

While we wait to see how The CW's attempt to bring the concept of THE LOST BOYS to television is going to turn out (they already rejected one pilot and are now planning a second), the latest issue of Empire Magazine has gotten the original film's director Joel Schumacher to look back at a couple LOST BOYS follow-ups that never made it to production.

Before the direct-to-video sequels LOST BOYS: THE TRIBE and LOST BOYS: THE THIRST came along, Schumacher pitched two different ideas to Warner Bros. One would have been a prequel set in 1906 and scripted by Eric Red – Schumacher told Empire, "I said you could have horses, it could be quite exciting." – and the other a film titled THE LOST GIRLS. His pitch to Warner Bros. was a film featuring

gorgeous teenage biker chicks who are vampires. It’ll be great.’ But they don’t listen to me."

And who would he have cast in THE LOST GIRLS? His vision was

Drew Barrymore and Rosanna Arquette on motorcycles."

Schumacher also wanted to bring Kiefer Sutherland's LOST BOYS character David back for this film. Apparently impaling a vampire on antlers wasn't as effective as it looked.

I really wish Warner Bros. had gone ahead with Schumacher's ideas. I would gladly trade THE TRIBE and THE THIRST for the chance to see Eric Red's prequel and THE LOST GIRLS.
