Shudder has given zombie film Blood Quantum a surprise streaming release

Without warning, writer/director Jeff Barnaby's Canadian Indigenous zombie thriller BLOOD QUANTUM has arrived on the Shudder streaming service in the US, the UK, and Ireland. 

The plan had been for BLOOD QUANTUM to receive some theatrical play, but with theatres around the world currently closed Shudder decided to "reroute" their release plans and give the film a spontaneous streaming release.

Shudder's General Manager Craig Engler said, 

We knew the film was important and timely when we acquired it last year, but given recent events, BLOOD QUANTUM's themes of isolation, fear of contagion, and humanity struggling with the ramifications of a global virus have only grown more relevant. When a theatrical release became untenable due to the real-world pandemic, we decided to accelerate the launch of Barnaby’s film so it would reach the biggest audience possible."

The film is set in 1981 and has the following synopsis: 

The dead are coming back to life outside the isolated Mi’gmaq reserve of Red Crow, except for its Indigenous inhabitants who are immune to the zombie plague. Traylor, the tribal sheriff, must protect his son’s pregnant girlfriend, apocalyptic refugees, and reserve riffraff from the hordes of walking white corpses. 

Michael Greyeyes, Forrest Goodluck, Kiowa Gordon, Elle-Máijá Tailfeathers, Olivia Scriven, Stonehorse Lone Goeman, Brandon Oakes, William Belleau, Devery Jacobs, and Gary Farmer star.

BLOOD QUANTUM was produced by Prospector Films, John Christou, and Robert Vroom, with Todd Brown, Nate Bolotin, Gabe Scarpelli, Ryan Shoup, Adrian Love, and Noah Segal serving as executive producers.

This film sounds very interesting to me, so I look forward to checking it out on Shudder as soon as possible.
