So, look, Renny Harlin's 1999 CGI shark-fest DEEP BLUE SEA starring Thomas Jane, L.L. Cool J, and Samuel L. Jackson (who might have the best death scene in all of cinema) may not be JAWS…or even JAWS: THE REVENGE…but it was still a fun, action-packed horror film, nonetheless. If nothing else, it had a rocking end credits tune about hats being shark fins, so that's something.
Anyway, it seems that there's a third DEEP BLUE SEA on the way from Netflix and Warner Home Entertainment, and it's already finished production! Which, of course, begs the question: "there was a DEEP BLUE SEA 2?!" And yes, there was (which isn't a guarantee, as there is a film called GHOST SHARK 2 that doesn't have a first movie). Apparently DEEP BLUE SEA 2 – which came out straight-to-digital and DVD in 2018 – was about,
A shark conservationist is hired as a consultant on a top-secret project on genetically-enhanced sharks, funded by a pharmaceutical billionaire. But soon the highly intelligent super-sharks turn on their masters and begin to pick them off one by one.
Either way, there are no plot details for DEEP BLUE SEA 3 at this time, but the threequel was directed by John Pogue (THE QUIET ONES), and written by the guy who wrote the third UNDERWORLD movie (so there's sort of a theme there). Meanwhile, it will presumably go straight-to-Netflix streaming July 28th.
So, what do you guys think? Down for another bout of DEEPEST BLUEST? If so, what do you think the plot is? Either way, sound off below!
