Joe Bob Briggs will be hosting Cannibal Holocaust on The Last Drive-In

Movie host Joe Bob Briggs usually likes to keep the films he'll be showing on his Shudder series The Last Drive-In a secret until he introduces them on the show, but this week he had to make a special exception. The second film in the double feature he'll be presenting tonight, May 29th, is the infamous CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST, and Joe Bob knew he couldn't just blindside viewers with that movie. He took to his social media accounts to give fair warning:

Directed by Ruggero Deodato, CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST is one of the most controversial horror movies ever made. The synopsis goes like this: 

During a rescue mission into the Amazon rainforest, a professor stumbles across lost film shot by a missing documentary crew whose goal was to study the region's indigenous cannibalistic tribes.

But that doesn't prepare the viewer for the nauseating things Deodato will be throwing in their face, which includes real, on screen animal slayings and gore so convincing that the director had to prove in court that he hadn't actually murdered his cast.

That movie is definitely not one anybody should watch without preparing themselves for it first, so I really respect that Joe Bob chose to warn his fans about it before the show. For those who still want to watch Joe Bob's hosting segments without having to sit through the movie to see them, Shudder will be making the very cool move of releasing those segments on their own tomorrow, May 30th.

It has also been confirmed that Shudder and Joe Bob are working on releasing the host segments for films that have been shown on The Last Drive-In but have since been removed from Shudder, since movies come and go on streaming services. I've been hoping that would happen, because those host segments are the #1 reason we watch the show and they should be preserved.
