Jurassic World 3 will resume filming in July with safety measures in place

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

JURASSIC WORLD: DOMINION, the sixth film in the JURASSIC PARK franchise, was just four weeks into a twenty week shooting schedule when production had to be shut down in mid-March due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now Universal Pictures has a plan to get the project rolling again.

Filming on DOMINION is scheduled to resume at Pinewood Studios near London on July 6th, making this the first major studio movie to go back into production in the UK. A two week pre-production period begins next week, and cast members flying in from other countries will spend two weeks in quarantine before reporting to set.

$5 million worth of safety protocols will be put in place to hopefully ensure that COVID-19 won't start spreading among the cast and crew. Universal will even be going beyond the safety standards recommended by American unions and the UK's British Film Council. As Deadline hears it, these protocols will

see the production carry out thousands of tests during the remainder of filming. All cast and crew will be tested before returning to set and then again multiple times during filming.

The safety measures will include the commission of a private medical facility called Your Doctor to manage the entire production’s medical needs; Covid training for all cast and crew; on-site doctors, nurses and isolation booths; 150 hand sanitizer stations; nightly anti-viral ‘fogs’; more than 1,800 safety signs put up around Pinewood; and ‘Green Zones’ for shooting cast and crew. Masks will be obligatory other than for actors while performing.

A more extensive breakdown of the safety measures can be seen on Deadline's website.

The first weeks of production on JURASSIC WORLD: DOMINION involved scenes that were filmed in the city of Merritt, British Columbia, plus three nights of filming in Hawley Common and Minley Woods in England. In addition to Pinewood Studios, filming is also expected to take place in Hawaii and Malta. Sets were already built at Pinewood before the shutdown, so the studio has been charging Universal holding fees – which is one reason why they want to get the movie back into production as soon as possible.

Directed by Colin Trevorrow from a screenplay he wrote with Emily Carmichael (based on an idea Trevorrow crafted with his JURASSIC WORLD and JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM co-writer Derek Connolly), JURASSIC WORLD: DOMINION stars Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Neill, Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum, Daniella Pineda, Justice Smith, Jake Johnson, Omar Sy, Mamoudou Athie, DeWanda Wise, and Dichen Lachman.

An official synopsis for the film has not been made available, but obviously it will be dealing with the fact that dinosaurs were set loose on mainland North America at the end of FALLEN KINGDOM.

A collaboration between Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment, DOMINION is being executive produced by Trevorrow and Steven Spielberg, with Frank Marshall producing alongside Pat Crowley. Sara Scott, senior vice president of production at Universal, is overseeing the project for the studio.

The film is currently scheduled to reach theatres on June 11, 2021, but it may have to be delayed due to the four month shutdown.
