Robert Eggers, director of THE WITCH (watch it HERE) and THE LIGHTHOUSE (watch it HERE), is gearing up to make the Viking revenge tale THE NORTHMAN his third feature, and he has assembled an impressive cast to bring the story to life: Nicole Kidman, Anya Taylor-Joy, Willem Dafoe, Björk, and brothers Alexander Skarsgård and Bill Skarsgård.
THE NORTHMAN would be the Skarsgårds' first time working together since Bill's 2000 screen acting debut, the thriller WHITE WATER FURY. Unfortunately, the siblings' screen reunion isn't to be. Bill Skarsgård revealed to Collider that he has had to drop out of THE NORTHMAN. He explained,
It’s been a scheduling nightmare during COVID. It is what it is. It’s a big shame. Eggers is one of the great filmmakers out there and working with my brother… I don’t want to talk about it, it’s going to make me burst into tears."
It's sad to hear that Skarsgård is so bummed to lose the chance to work with his brother on THE NORTHMAN, but I'm sure they'll get to work on another film together before long.
Scripted by Eggers and Icelandic poetic / novelist Sjón, THE NORTHMAN is described as
a Viking revenge saga set in Iceland at the turn of the 10th century.
The film is being produced by Lars Knudsen, with New Regency providing the financing.
