So this is exciting! According to Variety, none other than Sidney Prescott herself – Neve Campbell – is returning to the upcoming horror sequel SCREAM 5, from directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett of the filmmaking group Radio Silence (READY OR NOT). She'll be joining the previously cast David Arquette and Courtney Cox!
Here's what Campbell said about returning to the iconic horror franchise:
After spending time speaking with Radio Silence, they have shown such love, respect and admiration for Wes Craven and all that he’s created in the Scream franchise. I am beyond excited to step back into the role of Sidney Prescott and return to Woodsboro.
And here's what the filmmakers had to say about this awesome development:
We’re pinching ourselves! It’s hard to express how much the character Sidney Prescott shaped our love of movies and to have the chance to work with Neve is truly a dream come true. It just wouldn’t be a ‘Scream’ movie without Neve and we’re so excited and honored to join her in Woodsboro
Meanwhile, SCREAM 5 – also starring newcomers to the franchise, Jack Quaid, Melissa Barrera, and Jenna Ortega – is still set for release January 14th, 2022…but we'll keep you updated if there are any changes or delays.
So what do you guys think? Excited Campbell is back? Or would you prefer it to go in a more original direction? Either way, sound off below!
