Director and cast assembled for upcoming Resident Evil film reboot!

I have fond memories of both the RESIDENT EVIL games and the first RESIDENT EVIL movie, as I watched the latter for my 14th birthday party and remember having a f*cking blast! I'm honestly kind of afraid to revisit at this point…

Regardless, according to Deadline, a new feature film reboot of the RESIDENT EVIL franchise is on the way (not be confused with the upcoming live-action Netflix series). Unlike the other films, however, this one is said to have "faithful ties to Capcom’s classic survival horror games…set in 1998 on a fateful night in Raccoon City", rather than going down its own path ala the way the original RE films did (which eventually included a full-on post-apocaylpse and super-powered clones).

Meanwhile, it's going to be directed by Johannes Roberts (47 METERS DOWN), and starring Kaya Scodelario as Claire Redfield, Hannah John-Kamen as Jill Valentine, Robbie Amell as Chris Redfield, Tom Hopper as Albert Wesker, Avan Jogia as Leon S. Kennedy, and Neal McDonough as William Birkin.

Here's what director Roberts had to say about the film:

With this movie, I really wanted to go back to the original first two games and re-create the terrifying visceral experience I had when I first played them whilst at the same time telling a grounded human story about a small dying American town that feels both relatable and relevant to today’s audiences.

Not much more is known about the film, other than that it's hoping to come to theaters next year.

So what do you guys think? Excited for a new RESIDENT EVIL film? Either way, sound off below!
