Krysten Ritter starred in the Marvel / Netflix series Jessica Jones, and now she's getting back into the Netflix business with the film NIGHT BOOKS, based on a horror-fantasy "middle grade" novel written by J.A. White (you can pick up a copy HERE).
NIGHT BOOKS is being directed by David Yarovesky (THE HIVE, BRIGHTBURN), and produced by the legendary Sam Raimi.
Child actors Winslow Fegley and Lidya Jewett will be co-starring with Ritter in the film. The story centers on Fegley's character
Alex, a boy obsessed with scary stories, who is imprisoned by an evil young witch (Ritter) in her contemporary New York City apartment. He meets Yasmin (Jewett), who is also trapped there, and learns he must tell a new scary story every night in order to stay alive.
That set-up is reminiscent of the Hansel and Gretel inspired wraparound segments of the anthology film TALES FROM THE DARKSIDE: THE MOVIE.
Mikki Daughtry and Tobias Iaconis are writing the screenplay. Raimi is producing NIGHT BOOKS through Ghost House Pictures with Robert Tapert. MXN Entertainment's Mason Novick and Michelle Knudsen are also producing. Ghost House's Romel Adam serves as executive producer, while MXN's Tracy Kopulsky co-produces.
I watch anything Sam Raimi is involved with, so that means I will be watching NIGHT BOOKS as well.
