The Walking Dead bonus episode table read clip: Maggie has a Negan problem

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

At the start of this month, AMC aired The Walking Dead's season 10 finale, an episode that was originally supposed to air in April but had to be delayed because it required some post-production work that couldn't be completed in the early days of the pandemic shutdown. In a normal year, the new season of the show would be premiering this month, but with things being the way they are AMC won't have season 11 ready until next fall. So to help bridge the extended gap between seasons, they're working on six bonus episodes that are going to air sometime in early 2021.

Members of the show's cast recently got together on Zoom for a table read of one of the bonus episode scripts, and the Walking Dead Twitter account shared a 90 second clip from the reading. In this clip, Maggie (Lauren Cohan) confronts the formerly villainous Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), the man who killed her husband / father of her child. Carol (Melissa McBride) and Daryl (Norman Reedus) then discuss the Negan issue with her.

Showrunner Angela Kang has said the bonus episodes

are all designed to be filmed safely during this pandemic that we're in. There's sort of an anthological feel to some of them. They're really deep dives into our characters, which I hope people enjoy. We've been enjoying working on something that's a little bit different from what we were doing in the main part of Season 10. We just get to feature different people and tell these little stories that all kind of add up to a picture of what our survivors are going through, and that will lead us into Season 11 eventually."

Scott M. Gimple, chief content officer of the Walking Dead franchise, said the bonus episodes have "some of the most amazing scripts the show has produced".

AMC is planning for season 11 to be the final season of The Walking Dead, and it's going to consist of twenty-four episodes. That means, including the season 10 bonus episodes, there are only thirty episodes of The Walking Dead left before it comes to an end.
