Ex Machina, Annihilation director Alex Garland developing horror project

EX MACHINA (watch it HERE) and ANNIHILATION (watch that one HERE) director Alex Garland  – who may have also done some uncredited directing on DREDD, which he wrote – has revealed to Empire that he has a new project in development. In an interview that can be read in the latest issue of Empire magazine, Garland says, 

I wrote a low-budget horror movie, set in the UK."

Financing is being secured and casting is underway, with the hope being that this "low budget horror movie" will be able to go into production sometime in the spring or summer of 2021. Garland told Empire that he doesn't know if this plan is 

unrealistic or not. Always at this particular moment, a film always feels unrealistic, but then somehow it works out."

Garland didn't share any details on what sort of horror movie this will be, but it's exciting to know he has some horror in the works.

In addition to EX MACHINA, ANNIHILATION, and DREDD, Garland's credits include writing 28 DAYS LATER, SUNSHINE, and NEVER LET ME GO, and creating the series Devs. The films THE BEACH and THE TESSERACT were based on novels he wrote.
