Furiosa: Mad Max prequel starring Anya Taylor-Joy gets 2023 release date

Warner Bros. has announced that George Miller's Mad Max: Fury Road (watch Fury Road HERE) prequel / spin-off Furiosa will be reaching theatres on June 23, 2023. That seems like a long way off right now, but given that Fury Road had a 138 day shooting schedule, it's good to see that they're giving Miller some time to get this one done. Especially since production on Furiosa hasn't even started yet. Miller is currently busy working on the drama Three Thousand Years of Longing, starring Idris Elba and Tilda Swinton.

Furiosa will star Anya Taylor-Joy as the title character, who was played by Charlize Theron in Fury Road. Taylor-Joy will be joined in the cast by Chris Hemsworth and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.

The idea to make a Furiosa prequel has been on Miller's mind for a while. He and Nick Lathouris even wrote a script for it before Fury Road went into production, seeking to

answer questions about what the character’s life was like in the idyllic "Green Place," why she was plucked from the group of woman warriors known as the Vuvalini, and how she became the hardened warrior we meet by the time Fury Road begins.

I can't say I'm too hyped about getting a "young Furiosa" movie at this time, but then again, the thought of Miller directing an awesome action movie starring Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Hemsworth, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is exciting. Regardless of my hype level, I will be watching Furiosa in 2023, if we're not living in the wasteland ourselves by then.
