A year and a half ago, it was announced that Ben Wheatley would be directing the sequel to the 2018 Tomb Raider reboot (watch it HERE) that starred Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft. It was said that Wheatley would be working from a screenplay by his wife and frequent collaborator Amy Jump, and I was very curious to see what a Tomb Raider movie from that team would be like. As it turns out, we're not going to be getting the Wheatley and Jump Tomb Raider, as they are no longer involved with the project. Instead, MGM has turned to another filmmaker with genre cred: Lovecraft Country showrunner Misha Green.
Green will be writing and making her feature directorial debut on Tomb Raider 2. Her only previous directing credit was an episode of Lovecraft Country. Green also created the TV series Underground and wrote episodes of the shows Helix, Spartacus, Spartacus: Gods of the Arena, Heroes, and Sons of Anarchy.
Following the announcement that she had gotten the job, Green proved her Tomb Raider fandom with the following tweet:
My fav from classic era is Legend & from survival era it’s a tie between Rise & Shadow. So I’m thinking something like:
??????????????????????????????? ??????????????????????
*whispers* Who’s as excited as I am for a @TombRaiderMovie!?!? ???????????????? #TombRaider

Vikander will be reprising the role of Lara Croft for the sequel, which is being produced by Graham King of GK Films and Elizabeth Cantillon of The Cantillon Company. Details on the plot are being kept under wraps.
The 2018 Tomb Raider was directed by Cold Prey's Roar Uthaug.
