The Tomorrow War: Chris Pratt alien invasion movie goes to Amazon Prime

Paramount had originally scheduled the Chris Pratt alien invasion film The Tomorrow War for a December 25, 2020 theatrical release, but we all know why that didn't happen. Now it has been announced that The Tomorrow War will be skipping theatres entirely, as Amazon has spent $200 million to pick up the rights to release the film through their Amazon Prime streaming service on July 2nd.

Developed and produced by Skydance Media, The Tomorrow War was directed by Chris McKay from a screenplay by Zach Dean and Bill Dubuque. In the film, 

the world is stunned when a group of time travelers arrive from the year 2051 to deliver an urgent message: Thirty years in the future, mankind is losing a global war against a deadly alien species. The only hope for survival is for soldiers and civilians from the present to be transported to the future and join the fight. Among those recruited is high school teacher Dan Forester (Pratt), who teams up with a brilliant scientist (Yvonne Strahovski) and his estranged father (J.K. Simmons) to rewrite the fate of the planet.

Betty Gilpin, Sam Richardson, and Mary Lynn Rajskub are also in the cast.

Amazon's Jennifer Salke had this to say about the film:

The Tomorrow War sounds worth a look to me, I'll definitely be checking it out this summer. 

The film was produced by David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Don Granger, David S. Goyer, Adam Kolbrenner, and Jules Daly. Pratt served as an executive producer.
