Elsie Fisher, who received a lot of critical acclaim for her performance in the 2018 film Eighth Grade (watch it HERE), really seems to like working on genre projects. Before Eighth Grade, she was in The Axe Murders of Villisca, and since she has lent her voice to the 2019 animated version of The Addams Family, played Joy Wilkes in the Stephen King-inspired series Castle Rock, and took a role in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre sequel produced by Fede Alvarez. Now Fisher has signed on to star in My Best Friend's Exorcism, an adaptation of a novel by Grady Hendrix (buy it HERE).
Fisher and War for the Planet of the Apes' Amiah Miller will be playing
Abby and Gretchen, two best friends and sophomores in high school. Their friendship is tested when an evening of skinny-dipping goes wrong, and Gretchen begins to act differently and followed by bizarre occurrences. After some investigating, Abby begins to horrifyingly suspect that her friend may be possessed by a demon force.
That sounds like fun, and My Best Friend's Exorcism is made even more appealing by the fact that it's set in 1988.
My Best Friend's Exorcism is currently filming, with Damon Thomas (Penny Dreadful) directing from a screenplay by Jenna Lamia (Good Girls). Distribution deals have not yet been finalized, but the film is expected to end up with Amazon Studios.
Fisher and Miller are joined in the cast by Cathy Ang and Rachel Ogechi Kanu.
Coming to us from Endeavor Content, My Best Friend's Exorcism is being produced by The Gotham Group, Quirk Productions, and Happy Death Day / Freaky director Christopher Landon.
