CSI: Las Vegas revival very close to series pickup at CBS

CSI is considered of the most successful TV franchises ever and now a sequel series/revival is very close to a pickup at CBS for an official return to the network.

Original stars William Petersen and Jorja Fox are very close to closing their deals to return for the limited series revival, according to "The Hollywood Reporter." The limited series comes from the franchise's original creative team, Anthony Zuiker and Jerry Bruckheimer. In addition to Peterson and Fox, new additions to the series include Matt Lauria, Paula Newsome, and Mel Rodriguez.

The revival is expected to bring back more legacy characters along with a few new faces to add more buzz to the limited series run. The writer's room has been led by Elementary's Jason Tracey and they have been prepping the show for a year when the revival was originally announced. Several scripts have been completed via the virtual writer's room that ran from April to August.

The original plan for CSI's return, which will be set in Las Vegas like its parent series, was to coincide with the franchise's 20th anniversary last year. The COVID-19 pandemic shut that idea down but the creative team has continued to work hard to make the revival happen. Viewers love a good revival and I think enough time has passed since the show ended to get fans excited for a return.

CSI: Las Vegas originally ran from 2000-2015 across 15 seasons and 337 episodes. The series followed a team of crime-scene investigators, employed by the Las Vegas Police Department, as they use physical evidence to solve murders. In addition to Petersen and Fox, the series also starred Marg Helgenberger, George Eads, Ted Danson, Laurence Fishburne, Elisabeth Shue, Paul Guilfoyle, and Gary Dourdan. CSI: Las Vegas premiered during a time when live TV was still thriving and at the height of the show's popularity during season 5, the series averaged 26.26 million viewers. These are numbers that are unheard of on network TV today. During its 15-season run, CSI: Las Vegas was recognized twice as the most-watched TV show in the world and it became a multibillion-dollar franchise for CBS. The series also spawned three spinoffs that included CSI: Miami, CSI: New York, and CSI: Cyber.
